Supervision and Training at CFIR
Interested in receiving supervision and training at CFIR?
At the Centre for Interpersonal Relationships (CFIR), registered psychologists and psychotherapists offer supervision to clinicians at various stages of training. Supervision is available for Supervised Practice Psychologists, Doctoral Psychology Residents, Registered Psychotherapists, Doctoral Practicum Students, and Master’s Practicum Students.
Developmental Model of Supervision for Integrative Therapy
Supervisors at CFIR use a developmental model of supervision. Supervisors will guide and scaffold your progress through defined stages of clinician development by encouraging the use of your existing knowledge, skills, and self-reflective practice to produce new learning. Within a safe supervisory relationship, you will identify strengths and growth areas as you develop your understanding of intervention, assessment and diagnosis, jurisprudence and ethics, professional practice, therapeutic relationship and use of self, and individual, social, and cultural diversity.
At CFIR, supervisors practice integrative therapy with extensive training in multiple therapeutic modalities, such as Psychodynamic Therapy, Trauma-Informed Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, and Emotion-Focused Therapy, and more. Appropriate to your developmental stage as a clinician, you will learn how to create, implement, and adjust an integrative treatment plan tailored to each client and their goals for therapy.

Dr. Sara Antunes-Alves, C. Psych.
I supervise:
- Doctoral Psychology Residents
I offer supervision and training to clinicians interested in providing therapy to individual adults, particularly those interested in working with clients who struggle with interpersonal difficulties, impacts of trauma, and generally understanding the greater context behind an individual’s suffering. Through a developmental lens to supervision, I enjoy offering training in integrating emotion-focused, psychodynamic, and cognitive behavioural therapies. I have enjoyed supervising practicum students, and qualifying registered psychotherapists and psychologists, balancing a dual focus on supervisees’ developing professional identity and case management.

I offer supervision and training to clinicians interested in providing therapy to adult individuals, presenting with a range of struggles related to mood, anxiety, personality, self-esteem, grief and loss, and existential concerns, with particular focus on the influence that developmental and interpersonal traumas may impact the client’s defensive processes (e.g., coping strategies), mentalization of self and other, and the development of maladaptive cognitions. Through a developmental and person-centred lens to supervision, I appreciate the opportunity to provide training of psychodynamic/psychoanalytic theory and approaches, while integrating cognitive behavioural, emotion focused, acceptance and commitment therapies and techniques. Training would also include the conceptualization and application of Polyvagal and Sensorimotor approaches to regulate the nervous system.
I also supervise students in the neuropsychological and psychodiagnostic assessment of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), in addition to the full range of adult mental health conditions in the DSM-5. I have supervised practicum students, qualifying registered psychotherapists, and have participated in various supervision/training seminars.

I provide supervision and training to clinicians interested in providing psychotherapy to adults and couples and to those interested in providing psychodiagnostic assessments. From a developmental and person-centered supervision style, I enjoy offering training in integrative therapy, such as emotion-centered, psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral. This supervision approach also allows the student to develop their own professional identity and find their own style. I have had the chance to supervise internship/internship students, psychotherapists in training and I continue to participate in various supervision/training seminars.

- CPO requested training plans for new registrants, newcomers to Canada, and changes to declared areas of competence.
I offer supervision in the area of clinical psychology and neuropsychology, with adults and seniors. I have been providing supervision for almost ten years, to colleagues at all levels of training from doctoral practicum students to autonomous practitioners declaring a new area of competence. I have a great deal of knowledge of registration processes of the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario, and can be an asset for those applying for registration. Supervision follows a developmental model, with an expectation of increased responsibilities and complexity over time. Clinical case formulation and report writing are particular areas of focus.

I offer supervision to clinicians interested in offering psychotherapy to adult individuals and couples, and in supporting clients who wish to strengthen their relationships, develop their self-esteem, and/or stabilize their psychological and emotional well-being. I offer training in integrative therapy, focusing on object relations, emotion-focused and self-compassion therapies. My approach to supervision is primarily person-centered and developmentally-focused, which aims to support clinicians in meeting their training goals and developing their own color to therapy. I have had the chance to supervise practicum students, doctoral residents and psychotherapists, and continue participating in workshops and training opportunities focusing on clinical supervision.

My areas of practice are clinical psychology (treatment and psychodiagnostic assessment) and neuropsychological assessment, all with adults. For therapy, I see a range of clinical concerns, including mood, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive, trauma, interpersonal, personality, grief, and cognitive difficulties, among others. I can supervise cognitive behavioural therapy, attachment/interpersonal therapies, cognitive processing and other trauma therapies, emotion focused therapy, motivational interviewing, polyvagal, mindfulness, psychodynamic, and integrative therapies. For neuropsychological assessments, I can supervise assessments for ADHD, ASD, psychoeducational evaluation, traumatic brain injuries, and neurodegenerative conditions, among others. I use a developmental model of supervision in which we collaboratively evaluate areas of strengths and further development, and continuously monitor progress and focus on areas of development. I have experience with supervising both therapy and assessment students, at different stages of training in either clinical psychology doctoral programs (CPO) or psychotherapy programs (CRPO).

The supervision and training I provide is in psychological assessment and treatment for individual adults, couples and families experiencing difficulties with traumatic stress, mood, anxiety, eating-weight-body image, personality dynamics, sexual functioning and/or family-building. I believe that working with clients in fostering self-development and healthy interpersonal dynamics necessitates an inclusivity of diverse cultures, religions, abilities, sexual orientations and gender identities from the clinician. Supervision includes consideration of identities, psychodiagnostics, personality styles, integrative theoretical case conceptualizations, treatment goals/planning, therapeutic presence and relationship, as well as transference/countertransference. A developmental supervisory approach is helpful in meeting the strengths, areas for growth, and the professional and personal goals of supervisees. Supervision includes building clinical and personal capacities for integrating theories of therapy, including trauma therapy (trauma-focused, polyvagal) , psychoanalytic-psychodynamic (object relations, mentalization-based), experiential (emotion- and emotionally-focused, perception-focused), constructivist-narrative-postmodern as well as Bowenian and Satir-based family approaches.
I greatly enjoy supervisory relationships that have been fostered over years, and I welcome working with novice and senior clinicians. I have taught psychology in undergraduate programs at York University and the University of Guelph-Humber, and am currently adjunct faculty for the Masters and Doctoral Psychology programs at Adler Graduate Professional School. I have supervised psychologists, psychotherapists, social workers, doctoral psychology residents, and doctoral and masters psychology students. I am a former Director of Training at CFIR, and was involved in the development of our CFIR graduate practicum and CPA-Accredited Clinical Psychology Doctoral Residency Programs.

I offer supervision and training to clinicians interested in providing therapy from a life-span perspective to adults, couples, children, adolescents, parents, families and seniors. My theoretical approach is primarily integrative, involving utilizing mindfulness techniques within the context of psychodynamic, cognitive-behvioural and emotion-focused orientations, along with other frameworks, such as DBT and IFS. I utilize this integrative approach in treating mood and anxiety disorders, with a specific focus on trauma as well as cultural issues. I have supervised Masters and doctoral practicum students, qualifying registered psychotherapists, and supervised practice psychologists, and have participated in various supervision/training seminars.

I offer supervision and training to clinicians interested in providing both assessments and therapy to children, adolescents, adults and families. I am especially interested in working with individuals in training who are interested in deepening their understanding of trauma work from a psychodynamic/relational perspective (e.g., long-term therapy, transference and counter-transference processes, representational change). I also have specific clinical interests in trauma, gender identity and sexuality, alternative relationships, and personality concerns. I take a developmental and relational lens within supervision, and I offer training in relational psychodynamic therapy. Regarding assessment training, I offer training in psychoeducational assessments and psychodiagnostic assessments for individuals from childhood through to adulthood.
I also coordinate weekly advanced training groups for individuals focused on deepening their exploration of their own countertransference within therapy sessions. I have supervised practicum students, qualifying registered psychotherapists, and supervised practice psychologists, and have participated in various supervision/training seminars.

I supervise:
- Registered Psychotherapists
- Master’s Practicum Students
I offer supervision to registered psychotherapists and practicum students interested in providing therapy to adults and couples with a variety of issues, particularly those interested in working with clients who struggle with the impacts of trauma and interpersonal difficulties. Using process- and psychotherapy-based models of supervision, I aim to help build supervisee’s capacities for case conceptualization and understanding relational dynamics with their clients. As an integrative therapist, we will integrate psychodynamic, relational, somatic-based (e.g., sensorimotor psychotherapy, somatic experiencing), and trauma-informed (e.g., TIST, parts-based) modalities into our supervision. Additionally, I work with supervisees to determine their learning objectives and interests, and tailor our supervision to meet their needs and goals. I have experience in group peer consultation where I have facilitated reflection and discussion of therapeutic relational processes and case conceptualization.
Dr. Dino Zuccarini, C. Psych.
I supervise:
- Supervised Practice Psychologists
- Doctoral Psychology Residents
- Doctoral Practicum Students
I offer supervision and training to clinicians interested in providing psychological treatment to adults and couples, with a particular interest in working with clients who have experienced depression and anxiety associated with childhood trauma or other forms of trauma, and individuals who have faced early suffering that has affected their self and relational development. My approach to supervision tends to focus on building capacity to conceptualize complex case presentations that involves integrating various treatment systems, including psychoanalysis/psychodynamic, experiential-emotion(ally)-focused, cognitive-behavioural, postmodern, trauma-focused and polyvagal informed approaches, in the alleviation of the clients suffering.
I also support students to become more self-aware of their own personal reactions to clients and the impact this reaction has on the relational space and interventions. I have experience in supervising supervised practice psychologists, doctoral residents, and doctoral psychology students. I employ a developmental frame to ensure supervisees needs are met and supervision is appropriately attuned to the supervisees level of development.
