Embracing Shame: How to Stop Resisting Shame & Turn it into A Powerful Ally

Description

Shame is the master emotion. There is an inner often invisible conversation every human being has between shame and pride. Most of what happens in life and in therapy is not shame. It is the reactions to shame. Many believe when shame shows up in life the best thing is to ignore it or distract themselves – so they don’t go down the shame rabbit hole or even completely put it aside. This psychology group session offers education, skill development, and tools to help participants tackle their experiences of shame. Using her own personal experiences, the experiences of prior client studies, and deep reflection, the facilitator of this psychology group session will teach participants how to shift their own shame dynamic by building counter-shaming skills. This psychology group session will integrate many concepts from Sheila and Bret’s newest ground-breaking book, “Embracing Shame: How to Stop Resisting Shame & Turn it into A Powerful Ally”, which participants are encouraged (though not required!) to read before or during the workshop.

About Sheila Rubin, LMFT, RDT/BCT

Sheila Rubin, LMFT, RDT/BCT,  has been studying and mastering shame and family dynamics for a life time. She wrote Embracing Shame the book and Healthy Shame 6-cd set by Sounds True. She is co director of the Center for Healing Shame with Bret Lyon, a CE provider in California. She taught clinical case seminar at CIIS and JFK. She has chapters about shame in 7 books and has a Ted -x talk about shame clues. She was an eating disorder therapist at a bay area hospital.
