Dr. Shaofan Bu, C.Psych.
I offer a supportive and nonjudgmental environment where we can understand your challenges and explore the underlying issues that created them. People come to me seeking support to develop insight into their problems, address emotional and interpersonal patterns, and create new, healthier responses to challenges.
With over 10 years of experience, I have worked extensively with individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, obsessions, compulsions, trauma, grief, and difficulties in intimate relationships. My therapeutic approach primarily draws from psychodynamic traditions, focusing on developing greater awareness of emotional and interpersonal patterns and conflicts that contribute to symptoms. Problems and symptoms are alleviated through self-awareness, emotional growth, and the formation new responses. I offer short-term as well as long-term in-depth psychotherapy.
In our initial sessions, I focus on understanding your concerns, history, and expectations. I will explain my therapeutic approach, how therapy works, and what you can reasonably expect in terms of treatment length and outcomes. Together, we will determine the best course of treatment based on your needs and situation.
I obtained a doctorate in Counselling Psychology from McGill University. Following my graduate studies, I have engaged in ongoing training at the Institute of Psychoanalysis (UK) and the Toronto Institute of Psychoanalysis. I am a registered clinical psychologist regulated by the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario.
