Cilvy Dupras, M.A., R.P.

If you’re here today, I want you to know that I admire your courage and am proud of you for taking this important first step toward feeling better. I believe in the importance of deep diving into ourselves so that we can become more self-led, authentic, and connected. Whatever you have lived through, I am genuinely curious about who you are and who you are becoming at your best. Together, we can explore emotional distress, trauma, relationships, sexuality, sex addiction or family challenges and discover new possibilities for healing and wise, intimate connections. My heart rejoices when I see you experience breakthroughs, reconnect with yourself, strengthen your relationships, and find a wise and compassionate path forward for yourself and your family. As a bilingual professional who is originally from Québec, I look forward to the opportunity to support you in either English or French.

In individual work, I have over 40 years of experience supporting adults experiencing relationship difficulties, challenges related to self-esteem, identity, sexuality, and sexual health. I also support clients in addressing the effects of traumatic and overwhelming life experiences, including anxiety, depression, emotional distress, complex trauma, C-PTSD, dissociation, and difficulties with emotional or impulse regulation. I work with individuals navigating life transitions, family concerns, interpersonal difficulties, boundaries, neurodiversity such as ADHD, autism and giftedness, as well as addictive processes. I love working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and identities, and I strive to understand each person within the context of their relationships, family, culture, and life experiences.

When working with couples, I specialize in a wide range of relationship concerns, including intimacy, sexuality, recurring conflict, emotional disconnection, differences in needs and expectations, trust and relationship ruptures, parenting and family challenges and major life transitions. I also work with couples navigating mental health concerns, neurodiversity, infidelity, addiction or separation. Together, we work toward greater understanding, healthier communication, and stronger emotional, physical, and intimate connections. My background in family mediation and collaborative family practice also allows me to bring a broader family-systems perspective when couples are facing complex family circumstances.

For my areas of specialized practice, I have extensive experience as a Sexologist, with training and clinical experience in trauma, attachment, sexuality and relationships. My clinical interests include the mentioned complex trauma such as C-PTSD and dissociation, emotional and impulse regulation, sexual health and sex therapy, sexual identity, neurodiversity, boundaries and finally addictive processes. In recent years, I have developed a deep interest in Internal Family Systems (IFS) and am currently continuing advanced Level 3 training and supervision, with the eventual goal of becoming an IFS Certified Psychotherapist. I have also completed Level 2 training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) as well as courses through the Gottman Institute. I integrate these approaches with cognitive-behavioural, systemic, mindfulness-based, and attachment-oriented therapies, tailoring our work to your unique needs and goals.

Throughout our work together, I aim to provide a confidential therapeutic relationship characterized by compassion, respect, curiosity, authenticity, and genuine engagement. I believe that people possess important internal resources and capacities for healing, even when those resources can be difficult to access because of trauma, stress, relationship difficulties, or other life experiences.

In an initial session, I will invite you to share what has brought you to therapy and what you hope will be different in your life or relationships. Together, we will clarify your values and concerns to establish meaningful therapeutic goals. I will also help you understand how we will conceptualize your difficulties and discuss possible approaches for addressing them. You do not need to have everything figured out before beginning therapy; part of our work is to make sense together of what you are experiencing.

I also conduct a comprehensive assessment of your difficulties to help you gain a deeper understanding of what may be contributing to your struggles with sexuality, anxiety, depression, trauma or interpersonal and relationship problems. The purpose is not simply to identify symptoms, but to develop a meaningful understanding of the patterns underlying your difficulties.

To help you achieve your goals, over my 40 years, I learned to employ a range of psychotherapeutic approaches and interventions as mentioned, including sex therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), attachment-based and systemic approaches, mindfulness, cognitive-behavioural strategies and other integrative therapeutic methods. I tailor the work to your needs rather than assuming that one approach will fit everyone. Together, we can work toward reducing distress with Safety Nets while also developing a deeper understanding of the experiences and relationship patterns that may be maintaining your difficulties.

I am a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), a Clinical Sexologist, a Clinical Member of the Ontario Society of Registered Psychotherapists (OSRP), and an Accredited Family Mediator. I completed my B.A. in Sexology in 1984 and M.A. in Sexology in 1986 at the Université du Québec à Montréal, along with one year of doctoral studies in Foundations of Education and Special Needs Counselling at the Université de Montréal. Since 1983, I have maintained a private practice in psychotherapy, sexology, counselling, and mediation, first in Québec and, since 1989, in Northern Ontario. Throughout my career, I have worked with individuals, couples, adolescents, and families while continuing advanced training in trauma, Internal Family Systems (IFS), EMDR and collaborative practice. My professional development has also included specialized training in suicide prevention, critical incident stress management, addiction counselling, and other areas relevant to complex individual and family circumstances. I participate in ongoing clinical supervision and regularly attend national and international conferences and training in IFS, EMDR, trauma and attachment, family mediation, and collaborative family practice.

I have edited a series of three textbooks on Abuse in the Family, as well as a textbook entitled Introduction à la sexualité. My professional career has brought together clinical practice, education, consultation, and interdisciplinary work across psychotherapy, sexology, family mediation, and collaborative family law. I have also provided peer supervision for many years in accordance with CRPO guidelines, now as an Ontario Validated Clinical Supervisor, supporting colleagues in their ongoing professional development and clinical practice.
