Toronto Team

Dr. Megan Dann, C.Psych.

It is said that the hardest part is starting, and yet, here you are. I commend you for your courage in considering therapy and I would be honoured to accompany you on this journey to mental health and wellness. Together, we can explore and heal from past experiences, increase self-awareness, reduce emotional distress, shift unhelpful behaviours, improve quality of life, and strengthen your sense of self, relationships, and overall well-being. My goal is to help you create meaningful change and support you in building a life that feels balanced, fulfilling, and aligned with who you are.

My therapeutic style is warm, genuine, and non-judgmental. I prioritize cultivating a safe, supportive, therapeutic space where you feel seen, heard, accepted, and valued. I offer consistent and compassionate support as you navigate some of life’s most difficult moments. Together we will build a strong therapeutic relationship based on trust, transparency, safety, and respect.

In my clinical practice, I utilize a holistic, integrative, biopsychosocial approach, that is personalized to meet your specific needs. My approach is person-centered, collaborative, and strengths based and aims to embrace all parts of your identity with understanding, empathy and compassion. My diverse ethnocultural background and experiences living in multicultural hubs such as Toronto and Miami, have equipped me with cultural sensitivity and humility that I bring to my work with diverse clients.

I work primarily with adults and couples dealing with a wide range of mental health challenges and life stressors including depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), complex trauma/PTSD, grief, stress, sleep difficulties, alcohol/substance use, difficulties related to self-esteem and self-confidence, burnout, life transitions, difficult family dynamics, and relationship difficulties. I often work with adults with a history of trauma including history of childhood abuse and neglect, narcissistic abuse, sexual assault, and interpersonal violence.

I also help couples navigate issues related to attachment, intimacy, trust, communication, emotion modulation, and conflict resolution.

As a Health Psychologist, I offer support to clients dealing with various health-related concerns including chronic illness, chronic pain, autoimmune disorders, fibromyalgia, gastrointestinal disorders, neurological and neuromuscular disorders, cancer, and women’s health concerns (e.g., PCOS, infertility). I have worked on various in-patient and outpatient hospital rotations including Psycho-Oncology, Chronic Pain, Women’s Health, Behavioral Sleep Medicine, Bariatric Surgery, and Solid Organ Transplantation which has prepared me to work with individuals with complex medical presentations.

In treatment, I incorporate scientific, evidence-based interventions from psychodynamic-attachment, existential-humanistic, emotion-focused, cognitive-behavioural, systemic, trauma-focused and mindfulness approaches. This includes Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBTi), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). Our initial sessions focus on understanding you, your experiences and your world, and identifying factors that may be contributing to your difficulties. I provide my professional opinion with suggestions for evidence-based interventions that I believe will best meet your needs. Together, we will identify achievable goals, develop an individualized treatment plan, and establish a direction and pace of therapy that feels right for you.

I provide a variety of Assessment services including Psychodiagnostic Assessment, Trauma and Dissociation Assessment, Personality and Interpersonal Functioning Assessment, and Immigration and Refugee Assessment.

I hold a Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) in Clinical Psychology with a concentration in Clinical Health Psychology, from Nova Southeastern University. I hold a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University and an Honours Bachelor of Science with Distinction in Psychology (Mental Health Studies) from University of Toronto. Over the last decade, I have provided clinical services in a variety of settings including hospitals, community mental health, and private practice. Past training sites include University of Florida Health Sciences Centre, Trauma Resolution and Integration Program, and Healthy Lifestyles Guided Self-Change Clinic.

In the research world, I am particularly interested in the relationship between trauma and health; the pathways connecting chronic stress and trauma, nervous system dysregulation, and chronic inflammation, illness and disease. Advocacy is important to me. My latest research efforts have highlighted the unique psychosocial challenges faced by individuals with rare chronic illnesses and how to better meet their needs.

Outside of the therapy room, I have guest lectured, held seminars, and hosted professional events to enhance training and collaboration among interdisciplinary healthcare professionals. I have also provided supervision to doctoral and master’s level students in Clinical and Health Psychology.

I am an autonomous practice licensed psychologist registered with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario (CPBAO). I am a member of the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA), Ontario Psychological Association (OPA) and American Psychological Association (APA).

I am committed to providing you with the competent care you deserve, and I would be deeply honoured to embark on this journey, with you.
