Dr. Megan Dann, C.Psych.
It is said that the hardest part is starting, and yet, here you are. I commend you for your courage in considering therapy and I would be honoured to accompany you on your journey to psychological and physical health and wellness. Together, we can work to reduce emotional distress, heal from past wounds, increase self-awareness, improve quality of life and relationships, and find balance, meaning, and self-actualization.
My therapeutic style is warm, genuine, compassionate, and non-judgmental. Your privacy and confidentiality are important to me. My priority is to cultivate a safe space where you feel seen, heard, accepted, and valued and provide you with unconditional support and encouragement as you navigate inner struggles and life stressors. Together we will build a strong therapeutic relationship based on trust, transparency, safety, and respect.
In my clinical practice, I utilize a holistic, integrative, biopsychosocial approach that is tailored to meet your specific needs. My approach is person-centered, collaborative, and strengths based. I am to understand and make space for all parts of your identity with empathy and compassion. Having lived in multicultural hubs such as Toronto and Miami and being a woman of colour, have enabled me to bring cultural sensitivity and humility to my work with individuals from all walks of life.
I work primarily with adults and couples dealing with a wide range of psychological and physical health challenges including depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), complex trauma, grief/loss, infertility, chronic pain, chronic illness, autoimmune disorders (e.g., ulcerative colitis, Sjogren’s syndrome), fibromyalgia, irritable bowel disease, cancer, cerebral palsy, neuromuscular disease, women’s health concerns, sleep diJiculties, disordered eating, alcohol/substance use, stress, life transitions, physician burnout, caregiver burden and relationship diJiculties. I help couples with communication, conflict resolution, and diJiculties related to intimacy and trust.
I provide a variety of assessments including psychodiagnostic assessment, trauma and dissociation assessment, personality and interpersonal functioning assessment, and immigration and refugee assessment.
In treatment, I incorporate scientific, evidence-based interventions including psychodynamic-attachment, existential-humanistic, emotion-focused, cognitive- behavioural, systemic, and mindfulness approaches and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). Our initial sessions will focus on developing an understanding of your experiences and establishing a direction and pace of therapy that feels right for you. We will identify achievable goals and develop an individualized treatment plan that addresses your concerns. I also conduct a thorough assessment to identify factors that may be contributing to your diJiculties and provide my professional opinion with suggestions for evidence-based interventions that I believe will best meet your needs.
I completed my Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis on Clinical Health Psychology at Nova Southeastern University in Florida, USA. I have also earned a Master of Science degree in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University and an Honours Bachelor of Science with Distinction in Psychology (Mental Health Studies) from University of Toronto. Over the last six years, I have provided clinical services in healthcare, community mental health settings, and private practice. Past training sites include University of Florida Health Sciences Centre, Trauma Resolution and Integration Program, and Healthy Lifestyles Guided Self-Change Clinic.
I have gained extensive clinical experience working with adults with a history of childhood abuse, complex trauma, sexual trauma, and interpersonal violence through a traumainformed lens. In the health sphere, I have worked on various hospital rotations including Psycho-Oncology, Chronic Pain, Women’s Health, Behavioral Sleep Medicine, Bariatric Surgery, and Solid Organ Transplantation which has prepared me to work with individuals with complex medical presentations. In the research world, I am particularly interested in the relationship between trauma and health. My latest research efforts have highlighted the unique psychosocial challenges faced by individuals with rare illnesses and their needs.
Outside of the therapy room, I have guest lectured, held seminars, and hosted professional events to enhance training and collaboration among interdisciplinary healthcare professionals. I have also provided supervision to doctoral and master’s level students in Clinical and Health Psychology. Currently, I am an autonomous practice psychologist registered with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario (CPBAO). I am also a member of the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA), Ontario Psychological Association (OPA) and American Psychological Association (APA).
I am committed to providing you with the professional care you deserve, and I would be deeply honoured to embark on this journey, with you.
