Emma Watt, M.Ed., Ph.D., R.P.
It takes a great deal of courage to face our most difficult thoughts, emotions, and life challenge, so I want to acknowledge this first important step toward healing and personal growth. Whether you’re here because you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, uncertain, or in crisis, I welcome you to a therapeutic space that is grounded in safety, compassion, and collaboration. Together, we will explore your goals, work through your challenges, and move toward meaningful change, at your pace, and with the support you deserve.
In my practice, I work with individuals across the lifespan. Including adults, adolescents, couples, and families, offering support for a wide range of emotional, relational, and mental health concerns. I have experience addressing challenges such as anxiety, depression, anger, interpersonal conflict, identity and self-esteem issues, grief and loss, and life transitions. I also support individuals navigating stress, existential concerns, and relationship difficulties. For couples and families, I provide therapy to help improve communication, connection, and resilience during challenging times.
I have developed a special interest and expertise in the treatment of anxiety disorders, mood and personality disorders, as well as concerns related to meaning-making, identity formation, and existential distress. I also work extensively with couples and families around issues such as post-affair recovery, divorce transitions, premarital counselling, parenting dynamics, sexual health, adolescent development, blended family adjustments, and relationship diversity. My background also includes work in psycho-educational contexts, offering insight into child and youth emotional development.
In our first session, we will work together to clarify your concerns and establish clear therapeutic goals. I will provide a professional, evidence-informed perspective on how we can achieve these goals in a way that aligns with your needs and values. You can expect a respectful, nonjudgmental therapeutic environment where you feel heard, accepted, and empowered to explore your experiences at depth. I conduct a comprehensive, scientifically informed assessment to better understand the roots of the challenges. To help you achieve your goals, I draw on a number of psychological treatments including: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Rational Emotive Therapy (RET), Attachment Theory, Psychodynamic Therapy, Family Systems Theory, and Logotherapy, tailoring the approach to fit your unique circumstances.
I hold a clinical Ph.D. in Counselling, Psychotherapy, and Spirituality, and I have several years of experience in private practice providing individual, couple, and family therapy. Throughout my clinical training, I completed practica in diverse settings, including the Saint-Paul Counselling Centre, where I worked with individuals and couples using CBT, Family Systems, Attachment, and Psychodynamic approaches. Earlier in my training, I completed supervised psycho-educational through McGill University, where I supported children’s emotional and social development within an educational framework.
In addition to these core experiences, I have also pursued advanced clinical training in several specialized areas, including but not limited to:
- Esther Perel’s Transformative Approach to Couples Therapy in Action (2025)
- Practical Strategies for Working with Deep-Seated Resentment (2022)

- Psychodynamic Diagnostic Manual (PDM-2) training (2017)
- Proven & Effective Play Therapy Strategies with Children and Adolescents training (2017)

Alongside my clinical work, I have held academic roles as a clinical professor and practicum instructor, where I’ve taught and supervised students in the application of individual counselling and psychotherapeutic techniques. I have also served as a teaching assistant and clinical assistant in graduate-level courses such as Psychopathology and Treatment and Practicum in Individual Counselling, supporting the development of counselling competencies and assessment practices.
