Sofian Ayyad, M.A., R.P.
Starting therapy is a meaningful step toward understanding yourself and improving your emotional well-being. My goal is to provide a warm, accepting, and non-judgmental space where you can feel comfortable exploring your thoughts, feelings, and experiences at your own pace. Whether you are seeking relief from distress, greater clarity, or stronger relationships, I will work collaboratively with you to support meaningful and lasting change.
I work with adults experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, and relationship difficulties. I am also interested in helping individuals navigate cross-cultural transitions, identity challenges, and major life changes. Having lived in Eastern Europe and the Middle East before making Canada home over twenty years ago, I bring a genuine appreciation for cultural diversity and sensitivity to each client’s unique background and life story.
Over the years, I have developed a special interest in the treatment of trauma, mood disorders, and interpersonal difficulties. I integrate evidence-based and process-oriented approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), and Psychodynamic Therapy. My approach is collaborative, flexible, and guided by your therapeutic goals.
From the very first session, I aim to establish a sense of comfort, clarity, and direction. Together, we will explore the patterns that may be contributing to your difficulties and identify new ways of coping and relating. I provide a compassionate and respectful therapeutic relationship grounded in empathy, authenticity, and curiosity. I also conduct a thorough, evidence-informed assessment of your presenting concerns to better understand the roots of your distress. This helps us develop a shared plan for therapy that supports symptom reduction and fosters growth, resilience, and well-being.
I practiced as a psychotherapist for several years before pursuing my doctoral studies. My passion for psychology and mental health inspired me to continue learning and to pursue a PhD in Clinical Psychology. I am currently a fourth-year doctoral student at Fielding Graduate University (APA accredited) and am completing a practicum at the Centre for Interpersonal Relationships under the supervision of Dr. Dino Zuccarini, C. Psych., and Dr. Marc Bédard, C. Psych.
Prior to joining CFIR, I worked in a variety of mental health settings providing psychotherapy to adults with diverse psychological needs. I also conducted diagnostic assessments for first responders, veterans, and individuals involved in personal injury cases. I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University and a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Fielding Graduate University. I am a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).
