Toronto Team

Dr. Megan Dann, C.Psych.

It is said that the hardest part is starting, and yet, here you are. I commend you for your courage in considering therapy and I would be honoured to accompany you on your journey to mental and physical health and wellness. Together, we can work to reduce emotional distress, manage symptoms, heal past wounds, increase self-awareness, improve quality of life and relationships, and find balance, meaning, and self-actualization.

My therapeutic style is warm, genuine, compassionate, and non-judgmental. Your privacy and confidentiality are important to me. My priority is to cultivate a safe space where you feel seen, heard, accepted, and valued and provide you with unconditional support and encouragement as you navigate inner struggles and life stressors. Together we will build a strong therapeutic relationship based on trust, transparency, safety, and respect.

In my clinical practice, I utilize a holistic, integrative, biopsychosocial approach, tailored to meet your specific needs. My approach is person-centered, collaborative, and strengths based. I aim to embrace all parts of your identity with understanding, empathy and compassion. My diverse ethnocultural background and experiences living in multicultural hubs such as Toronto and Miami, have equipped me with cultural sensitivity and humility that I bring to work with individuals from all walks of life.

I work primarily with adults and couples dealing with a wide range of mental health challenges including depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), complex trauma, grief and loss, sleep difficulties, disordered eating, alcohol/substance use, stress, burnout, caregiver burden, life transitions, and relationship difficulties. I help couples navigate issues related to attachment, intimacy, trust, communication, emotion modulation, and conflict resolution.

As a Health Psychologist, I help individuals and couples cope with various health concerns including chronic illness, chronic pain, autoimmune disorders, gastrointestinal disorders, neurological and neuromuscular disorders, cancer, diabetes, and women’s health concerns (e.g., PCOS, infertility).

I provide a variety of Assessment services including Psychodiagnostic Assessment, Trauma and Dissociation Assessment, Personality and Interpersonal Functioning Assessment, and Immigration and Refugee Assessment.

In treatment, I incorporate scientific, evidence-based interventions including psychodynamic-attachment, existential-humanistic, emotion-focused, cognitive- behavioural, systemic, and mindfulness approaches and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBTi), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). Our initial sessions will focus on understanding your world and experiences and identifying factors that may be contributing to your difficulties. I will provide my professional opinion with suggestions for evidence-based interventions that I believe will best meet your needs. Together, we will identify achievable goals, develop an individualized treatment plan, and establish a direction and pace of therapy that feels right for you.

Regarding my education and training, I earned my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology with a concentration in Clinical Health Psychology from Nova Southeastern University. I also earned a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University and an Honours Bachelor of Science with Distinction in Psychology (Mental Health Studies) from University of Toronto. Over the last decade, I have provided clinical services in a variety of settings including hospitals, community mental health, and private practice. Past training sites include University of Florida Health Sciences Centre, Trauma Resolution and Integration Program, and Healthy Lifestyles Guided Self-Change Clinic.

I have gained extensive clinical experience working with adults with a history of childhood abuse, complex trauma, sexual trauma, and interpersonal violence through a trauma-informed lens. In the health sphere, I have worked on various hospital rotations including Psycho-Oncology, Chronic Pain, Women’s Health, Behavioral Sleep Medicine, Bariatric Surgery, and Solid Organ Transplantation which has prepared me to work with individuals with complex medical presentations.

In the research world, I am particularly interested in the relationship between trauma and health. My latest research efforts have highlighted the unique psychosocial challenges faced by individuals with rare illnesses and their needs.

Outside of the therapy room, I have guest lectured, held seminars, and hosted professional events to enhance training and collaboration among interdisciplinary healthcare professionals. I have also provided supervision to doctoral and master’s level students in Clinical and Health Psychology.

Currently, I am an autonomous practice psychologist registered with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario (CPBAO). I am also a member of the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA), Ontario Psychological Association (OPA) and American Psychological Association (APA).

I am committed to providing you with the professional care you deserve, and I would be deeply honoured to embark on this journey, with you.
