Autism & Related Challenges

Are you, a loved one, or your couple experiencing challenges as an Autistic person?

Overview

CFIR clinicians are committed to neuroaffirming care organized in a compassionate, and caring way to support the differences and challenges faces by Autistic adults and couples (18+). Our approach is strengths-based, and compassion-centred, in recognition that growth and change happen when people feel seen, heard, and safe to be themselves.

Clinicians are here to provide inclusive and accessible solutions to help you in building a secure, resilient self, and help strengthen your relationships as an Autistic person. A diagnosis of Autism is not required to access services. Note that clinicians are not able to support those who have been diagnosed with Autism Level 2 or Level 3 at this time.

How do we help you, your loved one, or your couple address challenges as an Autistic person, and support Autistic differences?

Together, our clinicians will:

  • Create comfort and trust, so that therapy can be a space where you can show up as your authentic self, or help uncover your authentic differences.
  • Offer strengths-informed evidence-based questionnaires that helps your clinician understand cognitive, emotional, behavioural, and interpersonal aspects of your differences and present support needs in therapy.
  • Implement practical tools for managing executive functioning — in ways that respect your personal differences, and sensory profile.
  • Support your learning and problem-solving through individualized strategies that work with your brain, not against it.
  • Build emotional regulation and self-care capacities, supporting you to navigate overwhelm, burnout, and sensory or social fatigue.
  • Explore how neurodivergence shapes your relationships — increasing self-awareness and fostering more satisfying communication and connection.
  • Enhance your confidence and effectiveness in work, study, and daily life by integrating your strengths and setting up environments for success.
  • Address deeper self and relational patterns that may influence your sense of identity, confidence, and connection.
  • Identify referrals to other professionals as needed.

NeurOptimal® Neurofeedback

Clinicians may also integrate NeurOptimal® into your treatment planning. NeurOptimal® is a cutting-edge form of Dynamical Neurofeedback® designed to provide real-time feedback to your brain, helping it become aware of its own activity. This can allow your nervous system to more naturally adjust and stably self-correct. NeurOptimal® can support emotional and sensory regulation by assisting the brain respond more flexibly to internal and external stimuli, as well as help improve transitions and adjusting to changes, reduce stress responses, and build resilience in the face of sensory overwhelm.

Our clinic can integrate NeurOptimal® sessions into treatment plans as a neuroaffirming support. More information on NeurOptimal® can be found by clicking here.
