Sanya Shaikh, M.A., Therapist
Seeking therapy is a brave and empowering step towards healing and growth. If you’re navigating emotional or psychological challenges, know that you’re not alone; and I applaud you for being so courageous, taking these first steps towards a brighter, more fulfilling future. For nearly a decade, I have studied psychology and worked in various inpatient and outpatient mental health roles to support clients on this journey.
In our therapy, you’ll find a collaborative, supportive, and non-judgmental environment focused on your growth and well-being. I work with adults on a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, stress, emotion regulation, trauma, self-esteem, relationship difficulties, parenting, and life transitions. Under the supervision of Dr. Melodie Britt, I am enhancing my skills in couples therapy and fertility counseling. In couples therapy, I help partners navigate challenges such as communication difficulties, conflicts, intimacy concerns, trust, infidelity, betrayals, infertility, and parenting struggles.
I have considerable experience and a special interest in providing psychological services to the immigrant population as well. My culturally informed approach to therapy recognizes and respects the diverse cultural contexts, beliefs, and values that shape individuals’ experiences. Being fluent in Hindi and Urdu, I offer services in these languages alongside English. While I have a strong desire for helping immigrants, my professional training enables me to cater to individuals from all walks of life, providing empathetic and tailored interventions to help navigate and overcome a wide range of personal challenges and complexities.
From our first session, I aim to create a safe space for you to express yourself. Together, we’ll develop a personalized strategy using various modalities and comprehensive assessments to address your concerns. I prioritize structure, organizing information, and fostering self-reflection and growth. Your journey towards positive change starts here, and I’m committed to supporting you every step of the way.
Drawing from evidence-based psychoanalytic and dynamic insights, we’ll explore the unconscious mind to uncover deep-seated patterns and beliefs. Humanistic and existential perspectives will help us understand your values, personal growth, and search for meaning. Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) techniques, you’ll gain practical tools to manage challenging emotions and thought patterns. Our journey together will foster resilience, self-discovery, and a greater sense of well-being.
I am currently registering as a Psychological Associate at the College of Psychologists of Ontario. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, have completed my Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology, and a post-graduate in Autism and Behavioral Sciences. Additionally, I have provided psychotherapy services at a non-profit organization catering to underprivileged children, working with a diverse clientele ranging in age, cultural background, socioeconomic status, gender, and religious beliefs. I have also facilitated workshops on various topics including mental health and effective coping strategies, healthy relationships, body image & self-esteem, and other relevant issues.
At the Centre for Interpersonal Relationships (CFIR), I provide clinical services to adults and couples under the supervision of Dr. Melodie Britt, Psy.D., C. Psych, Co-Founder CFIR St. Catharines.
