Stephanie Smith, M.A., R.P.
I want to begin by saying that I am so proud of you for taking the first step in your healing journey, which can sometimes be scary and overwhelming, especially if this is your first time seeking therapy. I believe in providing a casual and comfortable atmosphere while remaining professional and productive. My goal is to provide a safe and non-judgmental space to listen to your concerns, customize a personalized treatment plan with you, and embark on a journey that is mutually agreed upon to help you grow from your struggles, heal from your pain, and move forward to where you want to be in your life.
I offer personalized psychotherapy to individuals over the age of 18 who are suffering from anxiety, depression, stress, addiction and a number of other mental health concerns. In addition, I also specialize in treating relationship issues, low self esteem, anger and grief using mindfulness-based stress reduction, cognitive behavioural therapy, and more recently I’ve been incorporating aspects ot attachment theory.
During our first session together, I will take the time to get to know you and together we will explore the root causes of the struggles you are facing. I will take the time to explain what I can do to help you and offer you different tools and coping strategies based on your own personal preferences and situation. I will help you establish goals that are manageable and achievable, yet challenging enough to foster optimal growth. Goals can be modified as needed as treatment progresses. We will also complete a comprehensive, scientific-based assessment for you to gain a better understanding of your struggles and their origins, and together, we will work to process the thoughts, emotions, behaviours and relational issues at the root of your distress. Within this context, I hope to create a space for you that allows you to feel comfortable enough to be your authentic and genuine self over time.
In addition to my Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology, I also hold a post-graduate certificate in Addictions: Treatment and Prevention. I am also a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. I began my career, over five years ago, working in an inpatient addiction treatment facility, so I have extensive knowledge in withdrawal management, harm reduction, and motivational interviewing. I then began working with people who have been involved in motor vehicle accidents, so I have additional experience in treating issues like chronic pain and anxiety
that stems from the trauma experienced after a sometimes life-changing event.
